My teaching philosophy

As a natural born citizen of the United States I have had the honor of spending the majority of my working years in education. I have always naturally gravitated toward the challenges and rewards of educating others. Some positions did not initially begin as teacher/training positions but due to my personal aptitude and the need of knowledge by others, it seemed I gladly ended up with the tasks of imparting knowledge, in varying degrees to those around me.I have been told many times that I am a "born Teacher," but this is not accurate. What is accurate is that I am a born learner, and along the way, I learned how to teach. My teaching styles and techniques are evolving on a daily basis as I learn through professional development, peer interaction and most importantly listening to my students. I have found that one of the most important factors to being an effective teacher is being attentive to how different students learn. I am passionate about teaching because I have and will always be a perpetual learner. The primary foundation of my classroom is keeping the students motivated. I have developed a unique style of teaching that is hallmarked by a contagious smile and sincere enthusiasm towards my pupils. As a native teacher of the English language I will draw upon personal and cultural experiences that will allow my students to appreciate and conclude their own opinions about the English language and the American culture. I have found that is paramount to encourage critical thinking among my students, as this leads to the desire to communicate openly.
My students are keenly aware of my devotion and enthusiasm to teach them. I am proud to say that this nearly always translates to my student's developing an obvious passion and enthusiasm to learn.

Why I want to teach in China

I have found both in professional and personal life that I am extremely adaptive to novel situations. I excel when given new challenges. I am very flexible and enjoy not only traveling, but the prospect of long term change. After spending some time traveling from Europe to Central America I have done exhaustive research and have made the decision to spend the next five to ten years of my life teaching English in China. Since my sophomore year in college I have been fascinated with the Chinese culture. After my participation with a Chinese club in college, I have always seen myself living in China. I have spent some time studying the art of Wing Chun Kung fu, it was at this time I was exposed to and became friends with several Chinese born classmates. This extremely positive experience even further more strengthen my desire to work and live in China. On a personal level I am fascinated in studying and experiencing first hand the social values derived from Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. In addition, I am extremely impressed and excited to experience the architecture, music, martial arts and cuisine that China has to offer. One of my primary professional motivating factors in choosing the People's Republic of China over any of the other Asian countries is my strong desire to learn the language of Mandarin. I realize that this goal will only be achieved through structured classes in addition to complete immersion in the Chinese culture. It is my mid term career goal (three-five years) to become an interpreter in China. I strongly believe the first step to this goal is attaining excellence in the art of educating Chinese students in the grammatical, vocabulary and overall communicative use of the English language. I am confident that my presence at the right school will be highly beneficial to all of the students whom I have the honor of teaching.Edward Bryant
